Free Art Found On Shoreditch Street Art Tour

The work of elusive street artist Skeleton Cardboard has featured on the Shoreditch Street Art Tour on a daily basis but today two lucky guests got a lot closer to the street art than usual.  Eagle eyed street art spotters Lisa and Sarah from Montreal found not one but TWO delicious painted pieces of art on cardboard by Skeleton Cardboard.  Their delight at these discoveries is evident in the photos.

That looks like Free Art!

What is Free Art or Found Art you ask?  Well it is art that street artists put out on the streets with the intention that someone should find it, treasure it and keep it.  You can tell the artist’s intention was to leave a gift for a lucky stranger if the art is not painted on a street fixture nor glued to a surface and basically is pick up-able!  Trust your instinct, be honest and remember that street art is meant for us all to enjoy so don’t go stealing work that wasn’t meant to be free art.   Happy Hunting!

Street Art Private Views Thursday 10 Oct

What’s going on – Second Thursday is the new First Thursday?  So much to do this Thursday on the street art private view circuit in London.

Inside Out – JR

JR: ACTIONS.

11th Oct 2013 to 14th Nov 2013

Top of the pops in terms of international heavyweight street artists is this opening of prints and paste ups by JR, who has been causing a stir bringing his Inside Out photo booth to London and pasting photos all over various London landmarks.  Not sure but I am guessing RSVP definitely required.

Free Your Mind,You Are Here – Mantis, 2009

Mantis: Epoch

Mantis is one of those great long standing but un-sung heroes of the London street art scene, you’ve probably been blown away by some piece of Mantis street art and just not realised it.  On Graffoto (the other blog I write for) I raved about Mantis’s art and installations in the Lord Napier show and I am hoping for more of something similar from the “enigmatic and elusive” Mantis.

Update – the tip is bring a few pound coins for a go on a special installation

Who shot…Jimmy C

Jimmy C – The Riot Series

Oct 11rd to 27th , 2013

This is Australian Jimmy C, impressive muralist and spraycan drippy pointalist and is not to be confused with Jimmy Cauty who does the Riot In A Jam Jar series (for those of you too young to remember The KLF, burning a million pounds etc).  Street Art shows at the Pure Evil Gallery have become a comparatively rare event and we will look forward to some impressive impressionism from Jimmy C.

Far Rockaway Grand Opening

Far Rockaway is destined to establish itself as Shoreditch’s latest extraordinary street art themed bar to be far too cool for me to hang out in (see also – just about every other Shoreditch establishment with a neon sign and no draught beer).  Far Rockaway’s distinguishing feature is the awesome quantity of street art from possibly the most eclectic group of street artists ever seen under one roof.  This will be more like a brilliant art opening than a cool bar opening.. expect crowds!  RSVP and name on a list is believed to be a requirement.

Have fun and remember.. buying art is a bit like spotting a future wife…most likely to occur in the dark and under the influence.

French Street Artist Zabou does less cleaning in Shoreditch

Here’s a lovely crisp and colourful stencil image that recently appeared in Shoreditch and which we found on the Shoreditch Street Art Tour walk today.  The artist is Zabou, a French girl currently living in London.   Nice work carrying the flag for female street artists who are just getting on with it.

Less Cleaning, More Street Art – Zabou

Zabou posted HERE on her blog about painting this piece, with some interesting work-in-progress photos of the stencils and registration marks.

Guests Sightings – New Street Art Spotted On Shoreditch Walks

One of the bonus delights of a Shoreditch Street Art Tour occurs when a guest points out a new piece of street art.  Two artists who provided several new visual delights over the past few days have been Lovepiepenbrink and Dee One.

On Friday both SC and MM spotted fresh piggies by Lovepiepenbrink, though one of them was fresh just to me as Lovepiepenbrink’s photo stream suggests the Ronald McDonald “Horse is the new beef” piggy has up on the wall since at least February 2013.  Then on Monday the extraordinarily sharp eyes of Chloe and Dean accounted for three piggys by Lovepiepenbrink, 3 acorns by Dee One, a vintage Isaac Cordal (I believe) concrete figure and a Kinsha portrait, all of which I hadn’t seen before.

Today’s tour also stumbled upon two new Art Is Trash street installations.

I mustn’t forget that a couple of months ago the  first time I saw one of Ben Wilson’s chewing gum street art was when guest Laura found one at her feet.  What a joy to have such observant people on Shoreditch Street Art Tours walks.

Shoreditch Street Art Photography

Street art in Shoreditch is incredibly photogenic and guests on the Shoreditch street art tours are encouraged and helped to take better photographs by our world reknown and exhibited street art photographer-guide.  Some of our guests don’t need any assistance at all and we are delighted to show the work of Urbanshooters who took these shots on a Shoreditch Street Art Tour in the past week.  Check out the detail, the narrow depth of field and the colour tones Urbanshooters has found in Jonesy’s castings on brick – beautiful.

Details of the Shoreditch Street Art Photography Workshops will be announced shortly, sign up to our newsletter HERE to be sure of receiving the update.

Attack Of The Psychedelic Shoreditch Street Art Monsters

According to facebook it is Bortusk Leer’s birthday and he’s not far off a hundred years old.  With his regular appearance in a top hat it may be he dresses even older than that.  Whatever he was celebrating, it was nice to find the Shoreditch walls monstered up today by one of street arts most cheerful personalities.

Monsters like these need a colourful abstract background and Shoreditch delivers!

Street Art Gallery Private Views on October First Thursday

Thursday night is the big one, specially when it’s the first Thursday of the month yes?  So, if you are an artist or a gallerist and you arrange your opening private view on the first Thursday of the month you sort of hope that you aren’t just going to be lost in the noise.  So well done and big ups Aida, Shuby and Collagism for taking a punt on First Thursday and being the ONLY private view in the Shoreditch Street Art Tour diary.

Adia, Shuby and Collagism are HYSTERIA.

Aida, Shuby, Collagism = Hysteria

We love Aida and we love Shuby and have been seeing their paste up work on the street for years, we are pretty sure we are going to love Collagism after seeing her work in the gallery tomorrow.
