No Rest For The Wicked

Do you think street artists take a break over Christmas? Not a bit of it, we found some lovely fresh street art on the tour today which all appeared since yesterday.

D7606 was spied around town, for him it’s a pretty long trip to visit London and this time he brought this gorgeous collaboration with City Kitty of New York

It’s always good to see street artists seeing out the old year in style, look out for the Shoreditch Street Art Tour annual review appearing in the next few days.

Street Art Needs Dentist

Shoreditch Tour guests will already know that on the tour we like to find evidence of street art evolving as time does its work assisted by other artists.   A lovely piece by HNRX has been cheekily modified by artists unknown:

HNRX has hit Shoreditch hard with a massive sticker campaign.

You need a sense of humour if you’re going to hitch yourself to the “comic surrealism” waggon, other HNRX artworks have come to light in Shoreditch

So Porno Street Art Tour

It must be Christmas and a mood of festive generosity is welling up within street artists. Mr. Farenheit, a perennial tour favourite left a couple of sticker packs out on the walls which tour guests found today.

The main photo above is a novel group photograph of Shoreditch Street Art Tour guests, there must be a collective noun, “pride” perhaps and why are they beaming? Apart from the obvious enjoyment of a lovely and unexpectedly dry street art tour, each one has a little gift from Mr.Farenheit.

While stickers are a staple in the world of street art, a door handle “You’re So Porno Baby” door hanger is rather a unusual but very practical piece of free art.

Who doesn’t need a door hanger?

Timothy went home with a rich collection of spoils as he later found a piece of free art by Sean Worrall, part of the #365ArtDrops project which Sean has diligently kept up throughout 2015.

off to San Francisco!

This San Francisco bound piece is unusual as we haven’t found a piece of the #365artdrops artwork painted around all four sides like this one.

By coincidence, on a tour last Friday we also came across another product of Sean Worrall’s project and this now has a happy home with another Shoreditch Street Art Tour guest:

In between, on Saturday while cycling around and not actually on a tour another piece of Sean’s art was discovered and this made it back to HQ.

Postscript: Sean Worrall has written an interesting note on his blog about this art drop yesterday, the two pieces reported here being part of that “drop”. The coincidence of him discovering that one of the locations where he placed is named worrrall’s Yard is amazing and makes a very interesting read HERE. (note that the pic labelled 340 on Sean’s blog post is in fact the 339 photographed above – oh its all gone a bit topsy turvy!)

Mr.Farenheit can be reached via the Steck and Dose gallery

Banksy Colouring and Drawing Book, Martin Bull, Shellshock, street art

Banksy Colouring and Drawing Book

Release your inner child – draw! It’s what Banksy has been doing for years and publishers of colouring in books for adults have recently started to do. A gorgeous colouring book for older people (best to not use the phrase “grown ups”) based on street art by Banksy has just been released by my dear friend and inspiration Martin Bull.  You probably should not expect a withering critical slating of “Banksy Colouring & Drawing Book” by my buddy but who would want to – it’s a fun book, meant to be enjoyed.

The book has photos of Banksy street art alongside white page with a few lines from the art in the photo to guide you in re-establishing contact with your inner forgotten artist, this is possibly the cheapest therapy you can buy.

“copy the street scene, or, go off in a huff and not bother”

Martin accompanies all the drawings with pithy suggestions such as Write your own miserable slogan, then try to make the world a better place” alongside “NO FUTURE” painted by Banksy in Southampton in 2010. The book is also good for a lot of facts and interesting photos of old school Banksy street art.

Apparently drawing books are the new “thing” for oldies, buying this book will help Martin Bull continue the good work he does raising phenomenal sums of money for charity through the sale of his self published books. So, draw a halo round your head for doing some good while having fun.

“Add the moniker of one of the numerous writers who are jailed each year”

The stats on the book say:

  • Over 50 iconic Banksy street art pieces (ranging from 1997 to 2014) to colour & draw
  • Suitable for mindful adults or creative children
  • 116 large pages, including 53 colour photographs
  • Thick uncoated 150 gsm paper – ideal for colouring pens, pencils & crayons
  • Unlock your inner artist
  • For all abilities; life is not a competition
  • 10% of any profit donated to Bristol Mind (registered charity 1085171)
  • The most purple book in Britain, or your money back
  • ISBN = 978-0955471278              R.R.P. = £9.99
  • 25cm x 17cm  (10” x 7” approx)

The quality of the production, the glossy cover and the thick pages are big step up from the type of book most kids get to draw in.

“Your own cheesy English seaside scene”

So, for the person who gets street art and thinks life is meant to be fun a perfect stocking filler. Of course that supposes there is room in the stocking for the book alongside the voucher for a Shoreditch Street Art Tour 😉 In fact, the pair complement each other perfectly.

Banksy Colouring and Drawing Book is available on the High Street and through those huge online stores which assume that the path to a profit is to beat down talent to the lowest margin possible, or you can buy it direct from Martin’s own store HERE at a reduced price up until the New Year.
