Street Art Lights Up

London has gone light crazy so it’s appropriate to show what a little light can do for street art. Here are some photos taken by guests on a recent Night Street Art Photography Tour showing how a little light makes a night photo sizzle.

Airy and Octavia, two guests on the tour captured some fantastic night street art photos where we employed light painting techniques. It is quite illuminating (sorry!) to look at how two different eyes produce quite varied interpretations of the same situation.

The spray painting genius of Shok1 really stands out in daytime with this X-Ray hand, a doctor on the street art tours once commented that the anatomical accuracy was remarkable.

At night, add a bit of light and the piece is transformed, our featured image above is Shok1’s devil hands transformed by Alex Faulkener’s photography while below is what Octavia Romero Nuñez saw.

In my look-back over the street art highlights of 2015 I described Mr Fan’s chrome balloon “STAR” as “One of the most exquisite pieces of spray painting “, throw a little light on the situation and the balloons almost burst off the wall.

Austrian artist HNRX put up a luscious pair of lips whose pearly dental perfection soon decayed. Illuminating the border makes the piece look like a neon sign.

Art Previews Thursday 05 Dec

Two East London street art and graffiti shows in the Shoreditch Street Art Tours diary for this Thursday and conveniently they aren’t too far from eachother.   Also an interesting show in the West End, making that before 9pm could be a bit of a stretch!

Shok-1 X-Ray Rainbow Street Art Project Laid To Rest In Shoreditch London

Visitor’s on Shoreditch Street Art Tours’ walks have been unanimously awestruck by the beautiful compositions and virtuoso spraying technique of Shok-1, which has been a semi permanent feature for the past 14 months in a corner of a hidden off street spot.

Shok-1’s paintings beguile with iridescent rainbow coloured bone like structures reminiscent of X-Ray images, popping off a solid black background.  The most recent seen this week is the 10th in the series and consisted of 9 poignant glowing crosses in a graveyard, perhaps indicating the final resting place of the previous 9 versions of Shok-1’s X Ray rainbow series.

The bones eerily echo previous uses of a large portion of nearby Spitalfields as the City Of London burial grounds and indeed just beyond the wall Shok has painted is the graveyard attached to Christchurch Spitalfields.

Fear not though, for at the time of writing there is at least one other classic Shok-1 street art painting which Shoreditch Street Art Tours takes in and hopefully we will see more in the area in the not too distant future.

The images scattered through this post are a few of the previous incarnations of Shok-1’s wonderful X-Ray Rainbow series.

Shoreditch Street Art Tours: SHOK-1’s Glorious X-Rays

A fixture on the Shoreditch Street Art Tour route is the off street location where London spray master SHOK-1 has been running his “X-rainbow” series for over a year now.   The 9th manifestation is a stunner, a rainbow X-Ray fly image.  A close up shot reveals not just a beautiful detailed image but the extraordinary can skill required to paint like this.  It’s like a rainbow fly X-Ray under the microscope, we wouldn’t like to meet that kind of beast.
