Clet Abraham Street Art Stickers in Putney, London

An trip to Putney on the banks of the River Thames in West London highlighted how far and wide Italian street artist Clet Abraham has scattered his wonderful road sign subversions.

We reported last year on the fruit of Clet Abraham’s visit to Shoreditch and the City district here.

Apart from sighting the rich crop deposited around Shoreditch last November, we have seen Clet Abrahams stickers on signs from The City to Oxford St and Soho to Sloane Square.

At last, another thing to smile at in Putney apart from Chelsea tractors caught by a rising tide on the river bank.

Shoreditch Street Art February Highlights

February was a month of unrelenting street art activity by street artists in Shoreditch, mainly wearing anoraks and wellington  boots.    Most months of the year, my friend HowAboutNo, the guy who has spent the best part of the past 10 years oscillating between wandering streets and alleys exploring street art with me and propping up a bar with me, and I throw together a pictorial review of the months street art with a few pithy words for description.   in February, a month where the elements really tested the longevity of paper based art, with a sculptural slant.  Here are just a small selection of  the highlights, for the full recap it will be worth popping over to our private blog Graffoto

Love Piepenbrinck placed several new fancy dress piggies out on the streets and has teased us with a photo on Facebook caption “Most Hidden Piggy – almost impossible to even photograph”, which we haven’t seen hide nor hair of.

Without doubt one of the cleverest and most exciting things we have seen this month, perhaps this year, has been Borondo’s face by the canal on Hackney Wick, already drooled over on this blog here.

Dee One’s Heavenly Rejects has been a delightful presence on the Shoreditch streets for about a year, his work such as they devils painted on acorns is often easy to pass by.   One of his most pleasing and most difficult to spot is this aquatic scene.

Borondo, Spanish Street Artist painting London

Last November we met Spanish street artist Borondo creating a window portrait on Brick Lane, he said he hoped to return in the Spring and so he has and what a spectacular return it’s turning out to be.    Only last weekend I wrote a blog piece on www.graffoto.co.uk about the stunning work he had created since his return but that is already out of date with two masterful painterly pieces created since Saturday (above and below).

That letter E is a little bit of “archaeology” from a bit of work a couple of generation of street art back.

It’s fantastic to see Borondo back in London and we look forward to details of a forthcoming solo show, when we hear more we will be sure to let you know so sign up to the blog, the twitter feed and the facebook links on this page to be certain you don’t miss the news.

Street art gallery private view openings, 6 March 2014

Where are we going to get our fix of new art this week, apart from on the outdoor walls in Shoreditch of course.  I’ll be kicking off Thursday with  a social event at The Photographers Gallery in the West End then picking up the pace with this little set of beauties:

Alexis Dias & Jaz “La Linea

Alexis Dias aka “La Pandilla”, whose Octophant mural in Shoreditch continues to amaze passersby some 8 months after its completion, joins forces with Jaz the Argentinian graffiti legend in “La Linea”.

Pro176 “Liquid Mecanism”

Pure Evil gallery takes credit for introducing us to many street art talents we have never seen before so we look forward eagerly to the work of Pro176.  Look in the Pure Evil Department Store a few doors down from the usual gallery location.  And yes, that’s how they have spelt the title on their email so that’s what it must be.

Brett Amory “Twenty Four In London”

At Art 14 fair last week there was a Brett Amory canvas which was breath taking portraiture.  In this new show London is treated to the Brett Amory project where he spends 24 hours visiting 24 locations in one city and using the visual experience to inform a series of paintings.  He has already executed this project in New York and San Francisco and we look forward to seeing his impressionist urban take on some London locations.

Cyrcle  “Overthrone! Pooring Reign”

LA guys Cyrcle visited London a couple of years ago to decorate our streets with some impressive pasted collages and they return for this show at StolenSpace.  They have been braving the reign, sorry – the rain on a hoist painting a very large mural in a car park as part of their London fun.  Here are a couple of pieces from their 2012 visit.

Blair Zaye “Bespoken”

Ahead of all that Thursday night excitement, Blair Zaye (remember the drainpipes dripping paint down the Shoreditch walls last year?) has a solo show in the heart of the City of London.
